Durrell Wildlife Conservation
Thank you. By visiting this page you are demonstrating your support for wildlife conservation.
Durrell Wildlife Conservation in Jersey, Channel Islands, is a partner of the Blue Iguana Recovery Program (BIRP) in the Cayman Islands. As an experienced and dedicated wildlife organisation they have provided the BIRP with valuable expertise in order to help these rare and unusual reptiles.
Apart from their outreach work in Cayman Durrell also run their own conservation and breeding programme in Jersey for the Lesser Antillean Iguana, which they are working hard to save.
Lesser Antillean Iguanas are unusual prehistoric-looking creatures with a giant flap around their jaws. They face similar problems to their Cayman counterparts and are a seriously threatened group of reptiles in the Eastern Caribbean.
The Lesser Antillian Iguana
Quentin M. C. Bloxam, Director of Conservation Management at Durrell, has said of the Blue Iguana and of support for wildlife conservation:
"When one thinks of Caribbean islands it is usually in the context of lovely beaches and warm sun. How surprising it is for many people to find that one of the first inhabitants in Grand Cayman was a large blue iguana, who was leaving footprints in the sand long before we were... and who we nearly lost forever in recent years.
We are very grateful to organisations such as Foreshore for their active support - there is still a long way to go towards saving the Blue Iguana but now we can at least view the future with optimism. It makes a huge difference to us and to organisations like us to have a high level of corporate involvement in conservation.
The Blue Iguana is a prime example of a reptile brought to the brink of extinction and then carefully nurtured back towards sustainability and - as with the many other animals in need of care - we are able to help through an increase in public awareness and the donations we receive."
At Foreshore we understand the importance of protecting the things that matter, which is why we have pledged our support to Durrell in Jersey, where we are based, and to the BIRP in Cayman, which is our largest jurisdiction outside the Channel Islands. Equally, our business priority lies in protecting our customers’ extremely valuable and confidential data.We are able to do this through our state-of-the-art, secure datacentre backed up by our Network Operations Centre (NOC), which is open 365 days a year and provides 24/7 monitoring and support.
